First shot at PartyPoker
So.. I signed up at PartyPoker after spending (losing) my 30-or-so $ on Paradise. Used the FreeBOOK signup code from internettexasholdem.com to get 25$ + the Internet Texas Holdem book when depositing at least 50$. Best deal I figured for such a small deposit (only 100 raked hands to release the bonus).
Differences between Party and Paradise (stupid bullet list gets formatting wrong):
Party would not accept eVisa (or rather, eVisa probably doesn't work with eGaming transactions whatever that is). The Paradise software is muuuch nicer, cleaner, more polished tables, easier to "get". The cashier is integrated into the software and not just a redirect to some generic looking webpage. Party does not offer micro-limits (below 0.5/1$). Did I mention that the Party tables look cluttered? Hell just figuring out who had the action took a couple seconds. But I probably get used to it.
So, how did I do? Well.. not good. I had a really cold run for the total of maybe 2 hours I played. Played tight, only limped in occasionally Ax from late position or when defending the blinds. Managed a couple of steals but the only times I actually flopped something I got drawn out even though I played aggressively. Got JJ, flop was rags, bet/raised to the river, opponent got 2-pair on the river (with a trash hand). Got JTs, flopped straight-draw which I catched on the turn only to see it get kicked by a runner-runner-flush. Somehow I don't want to accept that fixed limit can be so boring :) And I also don't want to believe that you really need 300 BB to play "comfortably" in 0.5/1$. Anyway, down 15$ in two hours.
Having read the first 100 pages of Holdem Poker for Advanced Players (Sklansky) I understand why they have put a note/disclaimer in the beginning of the book stating "We are not writers".
I'll try to post another picture soon too, maybe something from Tunisia where me and my girlfriend went last fall.
